RE: Sanitizing water tank

I'll tell you what the instructions were for our 37-gallon fresh tank that came with our manual.
Pour in one quart of bleach, fill the tank (full) with fresh water, let it sit for about 30-45 minutes. Drain it, then refill it; drain it again and then it is ready to be refilled for use.
You will see a lot of variations about the amount of bleach to use, about whether or not to do the water lines and hot water heater. All I ever do if the fresh tank itself and I do it 2-3 times a season depending upon how long it has been sitting empty between trips.

RE: Towing in Canada

About 5 years ago in quebec I saw a mid 1980's dodge colt towing 2 snowmobile trailers in tandem with 4 snowmobiles on them. Not quite the right tow vehicle..It looked like a death trap to me, but Im told it was legal.
Towing tandem is legal up here in Quebec but there is a total length limit (can't remember what it is). We often see 14'-18' boats behind 5ers.

RE: Which do you prefer?

We enjoy going with family or friends 2-3 weekends a season. I can only take about 3-days worth of company at a time before I need some space. For race weekends, it is only ever with my race buddies; usually there is 4 of us.

RE: Yamaha 2400is generator/13,500 BTU ac

I have a Honda 2000 but a co-worker has the Yamaha 2400 and it runs his 13.5 BTU ac no problem; it's actually a bit quieter than my Honda (in my opinion).

RE: how do you secure your awning

We use the screw in anchors with straps on each end, similar to what you would anchor a dog leash on. Also de-flappers. When it gets stormy, we roll it up. I've gotten up during the night a many of time and rolled it up.
Same here.

RE: Rubber roof and Mr. Clean Magic Eraser????

In my experience, a clean roof has no effect on keeping the black marks down. Only polishing the sides helps.
Yup, that's about it.

RE: Rubber roof and Mr. Clean Magic Eraser????

I use them all the time on the awning, sinks, tub etc... but I've never used them on the roof, they are just too small. They have a very mild abrasive in them which I believe is less abrasive than the brush I use on the roof.
You want the roof clean to but it does not have to be blinding white. I clean mine every spring with a rubber roof cleaner and a brush on an extension pole and it looks great.

RE: Propane in Canada

We travel the border all the time at several crossing points and we leave the fridge on; it has never been an issue, and it certainly is not an issue traveling in Canada with propane on.

RE: What Food is Safe to Keep in RV During Storage?

..... But what about things like canned food (soup, veggies), cereal, pasta/Hamburger Helper mix, salt/pepper, sealed juices, etc.? Will they survive the warm tempertures in storage? Of course, we'll keep any opened, non-perishable products in a RubberMaid box to deter rodents.
We keep all these things and stuff like it in our pantry/cupboard from May to close-up in October. Canned and dry packaged goods as well as soft drinks, bottled water etc... have all been fine.
I keep the 3 MaxxAir covered vents open while our 5er is in storage.
This year will be a bit different for us since we will be in a seasonal site and will be keeping the fridge running all the time.

RE: Sheets

We use regular sheets. We also have a foam topper over the matress and any 'extra' is not really an issue.

RE: Where to fill fresh water tank when boondocking

With all that extra fresh water refilling, where would you dump the holding tanks?
If were boondocking, I fill my fresh tank before we leave. We tow to races and a bunch of other places as well. It's convenient to have the water already with you and a pain in the butt to find it away from a campground.

RE: water pressure

Do you have an on-board water filter? The one that came with our's originally had a 1 micron filter and it would easily clog and was ver restrictive. I switeched to a 5 micron and solved our problems.

RE: Electric and Gas at Seasonal Site ???

By the way, I filled a 30# propane yesterday at Costco in Candiac for less than $15.00. It's great to be back.
Sidney
Hi Sidney,
We haven't been to that Costco yet but it looks huge driving by; is it the same as the others? We usually go to the one on Taschereau in Brossard.

RE: Electric and Gas at Seasonal Site ???

Most seasonal sites you will have to pay the electric (hydro) bill. Why waste the money?
Not metered where we're going, it part of the $1,000 seasonal rate. I guess it would be different in the hotter regions where people would be running their ac's all the time.

Electric and Gas at Seasonal Site ???

I just read in interesting comment on another thread. We're going to store our 5th on a seasonal instead of our storage lot this season.
It seems that just about everyone leaves the fridge on all the time in a seasonal. I read that you can leave the fridge on 'Auto' with the propane on so that if the electricity goes off the fridge will switch over to propane. Do most folks do this in a seasonal site while you are not at the campground or do you close your propane tanks?

RE: seasonal camp site

.... Do most people turn off the water and gas or can you leave it running? We just got out TT on the site this weds and left both those on.
Definitely turn the water off. We had a water pipe coupling come off in the front storage of our 5th wheel the first year we had it. Fortunately we were in it at the time but even still, it got flooded. We now turn the water off every time we leave the trailer.

RE: Reese 16K Hitch Issue...Locking Bar Release?

.... Found out, that after jacks are extended, just put truck in reverse, let foot off brake and that released just enough tension to pull handle. Maybe a little white grease would help, also, or whatever you use for lubricant. Never had a problem after that first time.
Exactly ... I've never had a problem either, you need to take the pressure off the jaws.

RE: Any dealers hurting?

On my way back from Florida last week i saw many gas stations posting $3.45 a gallon, when i stopped at Pedro's S.O.B i stopped at the gas bar to get some beer and couldnt believe 2 class A's were filling up at $3.67 a gallon,,:E
I had to fill my truck 2 weeks ago. I was seeing a couple places bump their prices to $1.379 a liter but my local Canadian Tire was still $1.275. At $1.379, it was equivalent to $5.22 a gallon US. That's why I use my 4-cylinder Dodge SX to run around town. :E
